First Online Pop Up was a Success!

It was such a rewarding experience watching our first online pop up premiere with Carla. You could tell how much she loved it and how much immense joy it brought her to see herself on screen. I’m proud to be part of CMR and I’m proud of all the work put into this pop up by our team.

Sincerely Jacob

The State of Carla's Movie Restaurant - Still Here, Still Cooking Up Movies

Hello again!

I’d like to take a moment to show how grateful we are to be here and address the state of our business. After all these years, Carla’s Movie Restaurant is still going strong and it’s all thanks to the kindness of our community (and a healthy amount of luck!).

We are seeking new venues to throw our pop-up film screenings when we’re open to the public again. As well, we are always looking for new films and artists to showcase however we can. If you are an artist or know of anyone you’d like to see showcased, get in contact with us here or on instagram.

Currently, we have another installment in Carla’s series of short films in post-production. These short films are a relatively new experiment of ours and I’m happy to say they’re a successful one. Beyond being simply fun to watch, they’ve acted as a powerful form of art therapy for all involved. The atmosphere at our screenings of them have felt particularly special.

In short, we’re still cooking.

Finally, it would feel wrong to not acknowledge the fact that we’re all experiencing a moment of great change. I think now more than ever we need an outlet for the stories we carry inside of us. Film director Ang Lee once said, “we pretend to get closer to the truth,” and I believe that is absolutely true. A film, a painting, a song— these things have a way of making our internal worlds exterior. They give us a way to share the truest parts of ourselves with the world; Maybe even parts of ourselves we didn’t know we had.

I’ve seen it happen firsthand through our series of short films.

Another quote, while I’m feeling sappy:

“With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.”
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hang on to your creative spirits, everyone, even in these trying times. With them, we’re going to do our part in sculpting a beautiful stone of hope.

In Solidarity,
Cameron Colon
